In the RASCO system, the search is taken to the dog, not the dog to the search. Air is drawn from the target object over a odour-neutral mesh which traps and concentrates scent.

The dog evaluates each mesh sample under carefully controlled environmental conditions and gives a positive indication when it encounters the scent(s) it has been trained to detect.
